Manager of Professional Development

Ryder Reid Legal are working with a highly acclaimed US law firm to recruit a Manager of Professional Development, based within their London office. The Manager of Professional Development is charged with creating and implementing programs and projects regionallyand firmwide that serve to further the long-term professional development of the Firm's lawyers, with particular focus on professional, business, and client-service skills development. Working in collaboration with the broader Professional Development team,as well as Legal Talent and DEI, the Manager will also assist in the areas of integration, technology-based training, mentoring and retention initiatives, diversity initiatives, and lawyer coaching. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Position Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Professional Development and other team members to continually assess professional development needs and create learning programs in a variety of formats that support all areas of lawyer development
- Collaborate with Legal Education, Associate Development, and Licensing & Compliance team members to further Professional Development department goals
- Design, deliver, and oversee stage-specific, firmwide learning events and targeted, regional workshops
- Coach attorneys on topics involving professional skills (e.g., leadership, management, business development, contributing to an inclusive culture and career development)
- Collaborate with other internal executive coaches to provide seamless coaching services across the firm
- Deliver and continually enhance lawyer integration programs
- Conduct outreach to attorneys to facilitate new hire integration and foster on-going dialog about their professional development
- Evaluate programs and prepare reports on program metrics and feedback
- Create and manage budget and vet requests for Europe-based lawyers to attend external training courses/conferences
- Collaborate with the DEI team to further the Firm's strategic diversity goals
- Implement mentoring training resources, as needed
- Produce learning resources, including articles, FAQs, and tip sheets, as needed
- Serve as a resource to practice group leaders to help design practice-specific training
- Respond to training and development needs identified in annual lawyer performance reviews
- Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Professional Development department
- Promote a work environment that helps lawyers reach their highest potential and supports the firm's culture
- Be willing and available to work on additional lawyer training and professional development projects and to support new initiatives as needed
- Exercise care in the course of work to prevent injuries to self and co-workers
- All other duties as assigned or required
