St Asaph, United Kingdom NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership Full time

North Region - The position for this region covers BetsiCadwalladerHealth Boards working out of a base office at St Asaph.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with nursing, clinical or allied healthcare experience to join the team of Medical Examiner Officers in North Wales. Across Wales, the existing Medical Examiner Officer team includes MEO’s from a variety of backgrounds including nursing, biomedical scientists, ODPs, clinical audit, paramedics and dietetics. Other suitable backgrounds will be considered but experience in a healthcare setting is essential.

The Medical Examiner Service is currently undergoing development as part of the national implementation of the Medical Examiner system in England and Wales.

Medical Examiners will carry out independent scrutiny of deaths in order to establish the correct cause of death, and identify cases where further investigation into the circumstances of that death is necessary. The role of the Medical Examiner Officer is to support Medical Examiners in their role in scrutinizing the circumstances and causes of death. This support will include:
Review and analyze information relating to the circumstances of death and care provided as documented in the medical and clinical records.

Discuss cases and assist in drawing up causes of death with the medical practitioners and Medical Examiners present.

Discussing with the bereaved and explaining the causes of death and identifying and gathering information relating to concerns.

Passing on the opinion and advice of the Medical Examiners to medical professionals, Coroner's offices, registration services and the bereaved.

Be a point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals and the Coroner and Registration Services regarding the role of the Medical Examiner.
