**Commercial Policy Advisor (**Inside IR35)**

**Contract Term: 3 Months**

**Location: Remote working with x2 office working days per month in London**

We are currently creating a pipeline for an upcoming opportunity for a Commercial Policy Advisor on behalf of our client Defra.

**In the Defra group, we deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s lives. We are responsible for England’s environment, our countryside and rural economy, the food and farming sectors and have lead responsibility for protection from a wide range of natural threats and hazards. We have developed a set of three strategic objectives covering our policy outcomes and corporate objectives. - To pass on to the next generation a natural environment protected and enhanced for the future.
- To lead the world in food, farming, and fisheries with a sustainable model of food production.
- To be an outstanding organisation focused on making a difference, with world class delivery capability.

**As a HEO Commercial Policy Advisor your main responsibilities would be**:

- Developing a clear overview of the area of expertise, including key assurance mechanisms (e.g. Trader Registration, General Certificates, etc) and leading on key emerging policy questions.
- Developing an understanding of the key SPS risk and policy challenges in that area, and desirable outcomes for the policy area.
- Incorporating this understanding into relevant NID policy proposals
- Developing and maintaining productive relationships across relevant policy areas, including increased engagement with Devolved Administrations and Delivery partners.
- Providing support for urgent Statutory Instrument coordination and drafting requirements as necessary
- Failure to fill this Post risks Defra being unable to effectively deliver on one or more of these objectives, potentially to significant economic and reputational risk in the context of broader EU-UK relations.
- This could include a failure to meet written guarantee undertakings around protecting biosecurity of the Island of Ireland.

- Excellent project management - you will be a self-starter, able to work through complexity and ambiguity and have shown an ability to initiate, lead and drive delivery.
- Worked in a similar role and have a good understanding of NI protocol
- Ability to work at pace in a fast-paced environment.
