London, United Kingdom Public Sector Resourcing Full time

**Afghan Resettlement Policy Officer (HEO/G6/SCS1)**(Inside IR35)**

**Contract Term: Initial 6 month contract**

**Contracting Authority: MoD**

**Location**:(Hybrid working. Will be required to attend the London office)**

The Ministry of Defence’s key responsibility is to protect the security, independence, and interests of the UK, at home and abroad, working closely with our allies and partners, as well as Whitehall colleagues.

The Defence Afghan Relocation and Resettlement Directorate (DARR) was established in 2021 to enable eligible Afghans who supported the UK mission in Afghanistan over the past 20 years to come to the UK under the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) scheme, and once here to be assisted to begin their new lives with their families. It is important and rewarding work, supporting one of Defence’s highest priorities and with regular engagement from the Secretary of State, the Minister for the Armed Forces, the Ministry for Defence People, Veterans and Service Families, and the Minister for Defence Procurement. To date, over 12,000 Afghans have been relocated to and resettled in the UK under the ARAP scheme. However, we estimate that there are approximately 4,300 Afghans still to relocate.

Working within DARR you will be responsible for delivering Ministerial intent in supporting the resettlement to the UK of Afghans eligible to resettle here under the Afghan Relocation and Resettlement Policy scheme. Focussing on helping to deliver HMG’s (high profile) commitment to welcome eligible Afghans to the UK, your work prioritises the support this community receives from arrival in the UK.

You will be responsible for leading on a key plank of Defence’s contribution to HMG’s wider efforts, either relating to:

- the development of accommodation policy; and options and delivery plans to ensure the provision of accommodation support for ARAP Afghans.
- the integration of Afghans into UK society.
- data policy relating to the resettlement of Afghans.

This requires significant cross-Whitehall collaboration, most notably with the Home Office and DLUHC.

All of these roles involve management of internal and external stakeholders to maintain strong relationships, including within the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the Defence People Team, and finance, as well as external stakeholders such as Local Authorities.

**Person specification**

We are looking for a talented individual used to working in a high-profile, fast-moving policy space. You will be comfortable delivering in a high-pace environment with sometimes incomplete information, and quickly learning about new areas working across departmental boundaries. You will have strong stakeholder management experience and communications skills, in person and in writing.

**You’ll have**:

- Previous experience in a policy role at HEO, G6 or SCS1 level.
- Active SC Clearance
- Previous public sector/defence experience is desirable

**Disability confident**

**We will be in touch to discuss your suitability and arrange your Guaranteed Interview.**

**Should you require reasonable adjustments at any point during the recruitment process or if there is a more accessible way for us to communicate, please do let me know**
**.**- Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas._
