The team specialises in in interpreting, scaling up and transferring customer knowledge and processes to large scale fermentation plants, working in in every area of the Biotechnology platform, including but not limited to; Fermentation from small scale to pilot scale (1L to 10,000L) working in the labs and across all plants. **The Role** Within this role you will work with a variety of talented teams, supporting the Process Managers with technical analysis and small scale practical assessments of third party processes and process development and product scale up work. You will also provide support to the development of project scopes, budgets and office based planning activities and document preparation in support of the transfer of technology into the National Industrial Biotechnology Facility (NIBF). As the Process Technologist, you will support the team by delivering projects at large scale, providing technical support in real-time, trouble shooting technical difficulties, leading teams and reporting/analysing results to help draw conclusions and being a link between the Operations team and the Process Managers. You will also support the Senior Laboratory Scientists in small scale development and experimental work. This is a highly varied role with every day being different and challenging with multiple projects often running at once. It’s a great opportunity to experience all aspects of a fermentation process across multiple scales, whilst also gaining leadership skills. Training provided is fast-paced and vast, resulting in a breadth of experience and knowledge across multiple areas of discipline in a short period of time. There will be occasions where you may be required to work shifts, these occasions will be project dependent and could include extended days or night shifts, but will also provide the opportunity to rotate to support R&D projects with normal day working. Working hours and shift allowances will be discussed at the interview stage and you would be provided relevant shift disturbance allowance. Key tasks in the role will include (but are not limited to) the below: - To be responsible for supporting the successful and smooth transfer of processes from customer sites and CPI laboratories into the larger scale pilot fermentation facilities. - Responsible for hands on delivery of fermentations at scale. - To be the primary technical contact and decision point within pilot plant for the Operations and Bioprocess Development teams, working during standard hours or shift pattern as necessary. - To utilise your expertise and experience of bioprocess development to conduct problem solving activities on projects ranging from development stage to pilot stage maturity. - To communicate and work effectively with different members of the project team including; project managers, technical development team, engineers and the Operations Team. - To ensure all results, conclusions and recommendations are captured using the appropriate IT based monitoring and archive system to enable the storage, retrieval and use of the data. - To deliver presentations and provide reports and articles for a targeted range of audiences to raise awareness of CPI’s capabilities, meet our public sector targets and attract further customers to the facility. **The person we are seeking**: It is essential that you are educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a Scientific/Engineering discipline. You should also: - Possess foundation of technical knowledge and some underpinning knowledge in bioprocessing, as well as evidence of technical problem solving. - Exhibit professional knowledge of principles and practices in bioprocessing, as well as experience of practical, technical-based work gained in industrial environments. - Be able to demonstrate evidence of knowledge sharing and network building practice across teams or groups.
