**First Class Support **provides academic support to students in receipt of disabled student allowance (DSA). We pride ourselves on only employing first class support specialists that are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people studying higher education courses across the UK.

Due to recent demand, we are looking to galvanise our team of highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff. There is currently a position available for a Communication Support Worker. We are only looking for people that match the criteria listed below.

**Your role**:
**This role is based in Bournemouth**:
You will be able to translate sign language into voice and vice versa although not at the level of competence required by a trained British Sign Language (BSL) / English Interpreter. You will work flexibly with an individual deaf student in lectures, workshops and seminars as well as providing general one to one support.

**Your Skills**: Qualified signing and experience of working with deaf learners in an HE context; understanding of how deafness affects learning.
- Signature Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf Learners

OR
- Level 4 Communication Support Worker

OR
- Edexcel’s Professional Development Award in Communication Support Work with Deaf Learners

OR
- City & Guilds Communication Support Worker Level 3

OR
- A degree in deaf studies and ALSO Signature Level 3 qualification in BSL

For this specific role, successful applicants will receive:

**Additional Information**:The working hours vary according to the needs of the student and the academic timetable. All support workers are _currently _paid on a self-employed basis whereby they are responsible for paying their own NI contributions and tax.

We are looking for fresh and engaging staff to alter the dynamics of NMH in a positive and objective way. We are looking for people to bring something exciting to the company as well as their credentials.

This recruitment campaign is aimed at supporting students during the 2021/22 academic year, immediate work is available.

**Salary**: £22.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Bournemouth, Dorset: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

**Education**:

- Bachelor's (preferred)

**Experience**:

- supporting deaf individuals: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- A degree in deaf studies + Signature Level 3 qualification (preferred)
- BSL Level 6BSL Level 6 (preferred)
- City & Guilds Communication Support Worker Level 3 (preferred)
- Edexcel’s Professional Development in Communication Support (preferred)
- L4 Communication Support Worker (preferred)
