The position is aimed at outstanding scientists interested in developing skills in bottom-up synthetic biology, biocatalysis and microfluidics. You will be working in a highly multidisciplinary, international team at the intersection between synthetic tissue design, catalytic biomaterial production, and microfluidics.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
In addition to direct research duties, you will undertake project management, take responsibility for day-to-day supervision of students working on associated projects, submit publications to refereed journals and contribute to attracting external research funding.

**Essential requirements**:

- Hold a PhD in biomembrane engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience
- Significant practical experience in membrane biophysics and droplet-based materials
- Significant practical experience in microfluidics
- Significant practical experience with a broad range of techniques including light microscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging, x-ray diffraction and gel electrophoresis
- Practical experience within a research environment
- Experience of dealing with students and research sponsors
- Practical experience in a range of research techniques (see job description for details)
- Track record in developing scientific work for publication
- Experience in communicating work to diverse audiences
- Willingness to work flexibly, undertake necessary training and work as part of a dynamic team

**Further information**:
This is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months. You will be based at White City Campus. It is estimated that as part of this position you will spend 2-3 months at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan.
