Our Grounds staff are responsible for maintaining the gardens, trees, boundary fences, walls, sports fields and AstroTurf as well as general maintenance of buildings, facilities and decor. During the winter they perform snow clearance and gritting to ensure the safety of school users. In addition, they assist with the setup of school events as required and perform general maintenance tasks as directed by the Business Manager. They are fully immersed in school life and drive the school minibuses to facilitate the safe transportation of children to and from the school so a D1 Driving licence would benefit this role. Bus driving means they are in contact with children and parents at the school on a daily basis and are a valued and respected member of the school community.

**Gardens & Grounds**

Development, maintenance and improvement of the gardens, grounds, and sports field including undertaking activities such as grass cutting, planting, trimming, weeding and marking out of pitches and playing surfaces to sports department specifications

Managing and maintaining trees in accordance with any TPO conditions and in liaison with the Business Manager

Maintenance and repair of site boundaries including fencing, walls and hedging

Maintaining surfaces and undertaking activities such as jet washing and leaf collection

Report hazards found within the grounds to the Business Manager or Lead Groundsman and make it safe where possible

Clearance of school’s grounds of snow and frost, treating pathways with rock salt

Litter picking and emptying external dustbins and tidying around waste collection

Complete allocated jobs in a timely manner through the service desk, noting updates and job progress.

**Site Maintenance**

Care and maintenance of all vehicles, machinery and equipment and take to external contractors where necessary

Carry out regular mandatory Health and Safety checks and report findings to the Business Manager as allocated

Unblocking drains and guttering to allow surface water to drain

Carry out allocated preventative maintenance as allocated to preserve the school site

Distribution of gravel to hard surfaces to maintain car park and drive areas

Repairs to buildings as directed by the Business Manager/Lead Groundsman and in line with own experience including but not limited to redecoration, small building repairs and plumbing.

Assist with office and classroom moves as directed during school holidays

**Events**

Assist with event setup as required including moving items of school furniture and erection of temporary structures such as marquees and staging as well as securing lighting rigs and staging.

Prepare the site ahead of events to look clean and tidy and welcoming for visitors

Be on hand to clear down events
