Your new role: Southend-on-Sea City Council has a great opportunity for a Regulatory services Officer to join the Regulatory services team on a full time / part time and permanent basis. This role is being offered on a hybrid basis which is a combination of working from home and attending the office. Although the role may require work across the range of Regulatory Services’ functions, this post will focus on Environmental Protection. You will undertake complex regulatory services duties including taking lead responsibility for statutory functions involving projects / inspection programmes / major or complex investigations / supervising other staff members / regional coordination work / SBC corporate projects (business partnerships etc) in the area of Environmental Protection and will include knowledge and expertise in relation to statutory nuisance, contaminated land, planning consultation, noise & acoustics, air quality and other associated duties.. The role contributes to the council's Safe and Well ambition to protect and improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. **This role can be offered as either full time or part time contract.** **You are required to be flexible in respect of out of hours work requirements to ensure the needs of the service.** What you'll need to succeed: To be successful previous experience of leading on complex projects principally within the environmental protection discipline is essential for this role. You will have extensive knowledge of dealing with planning consultations ,contaminated land, noise and acoustics. It is essential that you have relevant knowledge and experience in specialist area(s) of environmental protection including the investigation of complex cases and dealing with complex criminal proceeding. It is vital that you can communicate effectively verbally and in writing as you will be dealing with a variety of stakeholders from different backgrounds and across different levels. It is crucial that you are efficient when dealing with the competing agendas of stakeholders and driven to achieve the best outcome. You need to be proficient with IT, various databases and monitoring systems. Essentially, you will be a team player with flexibility in respect of out of hours work requirements to ensure the needs of the service and in tune with the values and behaviours expected at SCC.
