**Job summary**:
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is a non-ministerial department headed by the Director. Through its mission is to fight complex financial crime, deliver justice to victims, and protect the UK’s reputation as a safe place to do business, the SFO plays a critical and unique role in the UK’s efforts to tackle economic crime. It does this by investigating and prosecuting some of the most serious fraud, bribery, and corruption cases in England and Wales and Northern Ireland.
The SFO also recovers the proceeds of crime and assists law enforcement agencies from partner countries in their investigations into fraud, bribery, and corruption. The cases that the SFO take on are some of the most significant and challenging cases in any jurisdiction. They can involve powerful suspects and defendants, vast sums of money, hundreds of victims, millions of documents, activity in many countries, and the highest levels of public scrutiny.
**Job description**:
- This is a pivotal role with ultimate accountability and responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the SFO and the successful delivery of its mission.In this exciting, varied, and challenging role, the Director will set and implement the vision, mission, direction, values, and professional standards of the SFO. Accountable to the Attorney General, who is the SFO’s sponsoring minister, the Director will ensure the overall performance of the organisation, build and maintaining an effective workforce, and develop and strengthening constructive relationships with partners across government, domestic, and international law enforcement. The Director will also maintain public confidence in the independence and fairness of SFO decisions, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the SFO contributes to and delivers Government policy and strategy to tackle serious and complex economic crime.**Person specification**:
To succeed in this role, you will likely have a track record of leading complex operational delivery at executive level, delivering strategy and results in a complex operating environment, and instigating and leading organisational change. You will also likely have experience of building relationships with stakeholders of the highest levels of seniority, developing high performing teams of diverse leaders from across disciplines, and engaging staff at all levels of an organisation. It is also desirable that the successful applicant has experience of major, complex litigation, whether as a lawyer or investigator, knowledge of the UK justice systems, and experience of working in or closely with the public sector.
