**Job description**:
- Do you enjoy identifying and developing new opportunities for commercialisation and knowledge transfer? Are you successful at building relationships? Would you like to play a key role in boosting the exploitation of public sector innovations and driving forward cultural change? Are you looking to develop your career in new and exciting ways? If so, this role could be for you
- The UK’s public sector is a thriving source of innovation. BEIS has established a new unit, the Government Office for Tech Transfer (GOTT), to support public sector organisations to unlock the potential to deliver benefits and returns of that innovation through the development and exploitation of knowledge assets (KAs). Exploitation routes include commercialisation or wider adoption within UK government departments. The outcomes are similar - delivering benefit for the UK economy and society.
- KAs are non-physical assets such as intellectual property, skills, know-how, data and R&D outputs. These are key elements of a 2021 report (“Getting Smarter: a strategy for knowledge and innovation assets in the public sector”), and part of an HMG priority to boost productivity and bring UK inventions into the economy. GOTT aims to deliver a step change in the management and exploitation of KAs, working with central government departments and their arm’s length bodies and providing specialist support.
- GOTT is a multi-disciplinary team that includes policy and technology transfer expertise. To support KA development, we manage a specialised grant fund and have access to a dedicated seed fund. We value the diverse experience and skills within our team which are necessary to deliver on the ambitious government agenda, and which make GOTT an interesting and exciting place to work.**Responsibilities**:
We are appointing a Grade 7 Technology Transfer Strategic Partner (TTSP) to join the TT Strategic Partnerships team in GOTT. The TTSP will collaborate closely with public sector organisations (scientific and non-scientific) to improve their understanding and awareness of KA management and, in turn, unlock potential value, helping to create a more entrepreneurial culture. This includes supporting exploitation (as a lead, or as an advisor), to drive tangible outcomes and enhance awareness and capability across the public sector. As a TTSP, you will join a relatively new team and play your part in creating a new model to deliver KA exploitation outcomes across the public sector.
You will work across a range of public sector organisations (our “clients”) to:
- Support KA strategy development and provide advice on KA management specific to each organisation within your portfolio.
- Closely collaborate with clients to seek out opportunities for KA exploitation and actively support the next steps to do this, including help in developing KAs for commercial markets and/or wider adoption e.g. across government departments.
- Identify gaps in currently available support, and signpost to other support mechanisms where additional specialist expertise is required.
- Engage with external partners including professional service providers, potential customers and investors.
- Support the organisations in your po
