- Job description- The Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology (FBG) team have an exciting opportunity for a customer-focussed and highly motivated Fisheries Technical Officer to join their team. The successful applicant will work across the stunning and diverse county of Norfolk, as well as parts of north Suffolk.
We are seeking someone confident in providing fisheries management advice, working with external organisations to achieve great environmental outcomes and the ability to plan for, and respond to fisheries and environmental incidents.
This is a varied and rewarding role and you will need to be adaptable as priorities change, sometimes at short notice. You'll be a self-starter, proactively building and maintaining productive relationships with both our external partners and customers, as well as our internal colleagues across the business. You'll also keep up to date with legislation and relevant scientific and technical developments, as well as approve and issue licences for the movement of fish.
Your base location will be Norwich, but you will be required to make site visits out in the field in all weathers, as well as travel to other depots and offices across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. However, we're adopting new ways of working which allows some flexibility to work from home.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do and we operate an out of hours duty roster. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team- The FBG team covers a diverse patch from the North Norfolk coast to the Waveney, encompassing a fantastic coastline, the beautiful Norfolk Broads and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
FBG fulfil a key role providing technical advice and support to ensure our own activities meet the highest environmental standards and we make tangible environmental improvements on the ground. We work very closely with numerous organisations including statutory bodies, NGOs, anglers, local partnerships and landowners.
- Experience/skills required- Relevant work experience in fisheries, ecology or environmental science would be an advantage, however being able to demonstrate the following skills is what is most important:
- A confident communicator experienced in influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes
- Being proactive, self-motivated and have strong team working skills to deliver the best outcomes for the environment
- Good organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
- Working and communicating with a range of colleagues, managers, customers and partners
- Good organisational skills/discipline and the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work
- Able to work under own initiative and as part of a larger, cross-functional/multidisciplinary team
- Sensitive to the needs of a range of stakeholders and able to deliver outcomes through these
- A willingness to work with the team to create a positive culture around health, safety, wellbeing and inclusion.
- A full driving licence.
- Contact and additional information- In East Anglia we want to create a diverse workplace where people are respected, valued and listened to. We’re all different, and by embracing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) we can become an equal opportunity employer where jointly we all grow and learn together.
It is our ambition to champion diversity through building a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.
The post is full-time although we would gladly consider requests for other work patterns.
