Asset Performance Team Member

We are looking for enthusiastic, driven and adaptable people to join our West Cornwall Asset Performance team. Your work will help the Environment Agency repair, maintain and manage our flood risk assets and deliver river maintenance across the area. The work is varied and will include supporting our team with data management, issuing work, asset inspection, as well as maintenance of the Environment Agency’s range of flood risk structures including penstocks, flood walls, embankments, gates, trash screens, culverts and pumping stations.
- This role will include site work, completing visual asset condition inspections to help understand our asset base. You will collect, analyse, and interpret information on them to ensure that we maintain them to their optimum level. You will help manage our asset data to ensure it is up to date and can be relied upon to inform our future investment programme.
- You will deal with a range of internal colleagues, as well as dealing with the public and external organisations.
- Typical tasks will include:
- Visual inspections of assets.
- Identifying and recording defects.
- Monitoring degradation and identifying associated risks.
- Answering simple questions and queries as you go about your work.
- Helping to improve out data by correcting mistakes or filling gaps.
- Gain an insight into professional asset management and help us improve further.
- As part for your development in this role, you will have the opportunity to carry out a Level 3 apprenticeship in Data Technician Apprenticeship.
The team
- You’ll work in an experienced and friendly team of Asset Performance staff based in West Cornwall. We manage flood risk maintenance activities and Environment Agency operated flood risk and coastal erosion assets in the DCIS area.
Experience/skills required
- A great deal of our work is generated using information technology, an ability to use hardware and software is important, and knowledge of GIS or CAD is helpful. An understanding of flood and costal erosion risk management assets and their asset lifecycle would be beneficial.
- Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
- An understanding of Engineering and/or practical experience (civil, mechanical/electrical) is desirable but not essential
- Appreciation of the asset management cycle
- Safety, Health & Environment experience and awareness
- Comfortable using information technology and associated software
- Be able to work/communicate with staff and customers who may be distant
- Keenness to learn and develop
- You will need good inter-personal skills to develop relationships with internal and external customers
- Deliver work by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information

- The apprenticeship will be delivered through a blended approach of face-to-face, virtual tuition and e-learning with support from a Talent Coach. This is equivalent of two ‘A’ levels.
