The Safeguarding Team is a progressive team that provides support, knowledge, and experience, ensuring the Trust meets its responsibilities to our patients for the safeguarding and protection of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing specialist advice to our staff services and service users on safeguarding issues and concerns. The Team is a point of contact for raising concerns when it is believed a child, young person, or adult is at risk of abuse. The role requires excellent partnership working with the relevant Local Authorities and other Multi Agency Partners to ensure children, young people, and adults at risk are protected and safeguarded.

The post also includes supporting staff in adherence to the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Framework, PREVENT, domestic violence (including MARAC), proportionate restrictions, best interest decisions. The team work with staff and patients with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, dementia, or complex needs, to create personalised plans of care using reasonable adjustments

Working as a senior member of the Safeguarding and Dementia Team, the post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of issues related to the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs), and The Children Act.

Provide advice and support to all staff regarding the safeguarding of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, including prevention and response. Maintain a high clinical presence to assist with the recognition of safeguarding issues and recognising vulnerable children, young people, or adults that may require protection from harm or abuse

Undertake an initial review of the case when a safeguarding alert has been raised, to establish if the alert is a safeguarding issue and further action is required to ensure the safety or protection of the person at risk. When appropriate, to ensure the safeguarding concern is referred to the relevant Social Care agency and to work in partnership with them to maintain the safety and protection of the person at risk. Attend safeguarding strategy discussions, strategy meetings, complex best interest meetings, or case conferences in relation to safeguarding concerns. Deputise for the Safeguarding Lead Nurse at Multi-Disciplinary, Multi-Agency or Trust level meetings in their absence.

Work with the Safeguarding Lead Nurse, plan and deliver training to ensure that the Trust and its workforce conform to mandatory and statutory frameworks appertaining to the Safeguarding Agenda and support audit and research initiatives to identify Safeguarding service improvements and developments. There may be rare occasions that the post holder is required to attend one of The Christie Satellite sites to support with Safeguarding concerns or training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical
- Provide expert clinical knowledge and support to colleagues, patients and carers at the Trust and Network-wide on safeguarding
- Ensure that all patient records, both written and electronic are accurate.
- Demonstrate enhanced communication skills when dealing with difficult or challenging situations.
- Manage clinical caseload, prioritising patient need across in-patient and out-patient settings to enable rapid response to calls for urgent advice.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary discussions on to ensure continuity and co-ordination of optimum patient care.
- Work effectively with multi agency colleagues across ward/departmental areas and the wider community.
- Based at The Christie NHS FT Withington site. Flexible working hours with some flex for working from home days, in line with service needs and in agreement with the Safeguarding Lead Nurse.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies across Cancer Services to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to on-going safeguarding needs and discharge arrangements.
