Working in our StreetCare grounds team you will co-ordinate routine maintenance and project work and will also manage the operational front-line team to ensure services are delivered to high standards and continuously improving key services and commercial activities. You will work closely with the Streetcare Operations Manager who has the overall responsibility for the section and you will be managing the front-line grounds staff, several vehicles, plant, and equipment to an approximate value of over £500,000. The team manages horticultural ground maintenance including hedge cutting, grass cutting, shrub bed maintenance, collection of litter, fly tips on public open spaces.

**What will you be doing**
- You will be responsible for front line delivery of services and the daily leadership and line management to a team of operational colleagues
- On a daily basis you will be responsible for the efficient coordination of resources including plant, staff, machinery, vehicles, and equipment within the team.
- In the role you will complete all electronic and paper records and maintaining inventory of plant and materials within business time frames.
- You will ensure that all works are carried out with full regard for the health, safety and welfare of yourself, your colleagues, members of the public and service users and to assess risks, recording and communicating these to the team.
- Responsible for the delivery of practical training, you will conduct toolbox talks and mentoring sessions with new and existing staff members.
- It is essential that you ensure works are completed on time and to a high standard and respond promptly to the needs of our customers through managing service requests, scheduling works and updating records. This will include dealing with complaints, or queries within your service area.
- You are required to attend departmental health and safety / progress meetings as requested by the Operations Manager.
- Working with colleagues across the council you will contribute to the development of new and improved methods of raising efficiency using an “end to end” approach in meeting the council’s priorities.

- You will either be qualified or actively working towards a recognised qualification at level 3 in Horticulture and Landscaping or able to demonstrate a high level of skills, knowledge, and ability in managing people through practical experience.
- It is essential that you have a strong grounds background in a similar environment and be able to demonstrate principles and good practice in landscaping and maintenance of amenity landscapes ideally with a professional qualification in a horticultural or land-based service.
- You must have a thorough understanding of all aspects of Health and Safety including the management and managing workplace hazards and will hold a current IOSH managing safely certification.
- You will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
- To be successful in this role, you should have prior experience in planning and supervising multi-site maintenance works be able to demonstrate creative problem solving and decision making.
- You will have a full category B driving licence as driving is essential to the role.
- We require you to be a competent user of office-based software and be able to demonstrate the ability to create spreadsheets, documents to manage and record data.
- It is desirable, though not essential, that you have:
- NEBOSH National General certificate, A Category C1 orC1 +E driving licence with experience of towing trailers up to the maximum permitted by any licence restriction
- A combination of C&G NPTC 0020-01 to0020-11 or equivalent CS30/31 Certification in the safe use of chainsaws is desirable for safe supervision of chainsaw works and NRSWA supervisor’s units001 (LA), 010 (S1)
