Health Play Specialist

We are seeking motivated and dynamic Band 5 Health Play Specialist to develop a play service within the Specialist Children's Community Nursing teams. The main part of the role will be within the Child Development Team.
The Specialist Childrens Community Nursing team comprises of three teams - Child Development Nursing, Special School Nursing, and Childrens Community Nursing team. offers care to children across Waltham Forest in their homes, in clinic and in Special School settings. The aim is for the Health Play Specialist to provide an excellent standard of play input to enable children to achieve their best possible outcomes in terms of their development.
As part of the Specialist Community Nursing Children’s Service, we can offer you:
- Regular clinical and managerial supervision
- A programme of In-service training and rotation opportunities
- Training and development opportunities
- To manage, contribute and develop the maintenance of an age-appropriate environment where play and recreation occurs naturally and participate in quality initiatives in the play and clinical teams
- To act as an advocate for children and young people ensuring their voice is heard within care planning
- To maintain confidentiality regarding patients and families.
- To be aware of risk in the home and community environments and to contribute and adhere to risk assessments in line with trust policy.
- To undertake other relevant duties and tasks within limitations of competency, arising from the Specialist Children Services and as requested by the Clinical Lead for Specialist Childrens Nursing.

Probationary Period
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177 per annum pro rata).
The post holder work autonomously for the most part within the Child Development Nursing Team. They will utilise a range of skills and experience gained in clinical practice to provide holistic developmental assessments for children who have complex needs. Excellent communication skills are essential as well as good knowledge of current play based practice and the ability to work as an effective team member within the multi-professional team.
