An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead to recruit 4 Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (TACCP) to work on the critical care unit. We are looking to appoint 4 trainees who we will support to undergo their ACCP training at Teesside University, developing their clinical skills within the Critical Care Unit to qualify and practice as an ACCP at Gateshead Health NHSFT.
- To lead and coordinate the delivery of critical care to patients through the use of effective evidence-based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and clinical practice
- To provide the highest standard of clinical care for patients within critical care through the utilisation of advanced clinical skills in the assessment & management working autonomously and within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality safe care and enabling evaluation of patient outcomes
- To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provide in the safest manner
- To provide clinical leadership, highly specialist clinical advice and support to clinical staff on the management and care of patients with critical care needs both inside of the critical care department and outside where necessary.
- To lead and participate in the continuing improvement of critical care services in line with the Trust & Departmental objectives

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

The people in this area are known for being friendly and there is a strong sense of regional identity.

More than £250 million has been invested over recent years in major new cultural and leisure facilities along the river bank. Gateshead is a pleasant combination of urban development in the east and rural land to the west. Some of the best coast and countryside in the country are all easily accessible from Gateshead. The area is well served with public transport, and air and ferry links to mainland Europe are both about seven miles away.

The Critical Care department is a 12 bedded department that is split into two sides, level 3 critical care patients and level 2 high dependency patients.

We are quite a big team as our patients require a lot of specialised care, level 3 patients are nursed with a 1:1 ratio and level 2 patients with a 1:2.

We have a large multidisciplinary team consisting of physiotherapists, dieticians, rehabilitation nurses, research nurses and organ donation, all helping to ensure our patients receive the best evidenced based care.

Our patients come from a wide variety of clinical specialities via both elective and emergency pathways.

- To provide enhanced continuity and high standards of management and care to patients requiring level 1-3 care in the critical care directorate
- The post holder will take a lead clinical role within a team who provides high quality specialist clinical care
- Lead the provision of specialist clinical knowledge and advice to other staff, the wider multi-professional team, allied health professionals, patients and their families/carers and partner organisations
- Lead the provision of education and training for other practitioners and allied health professionals; including health promotion, within formally agreed timetabling
- Develop and lead the provision and involvement of research within the department within agreed and suitably timetabled sessions
