- We are now recruiting for Complex Crime Investigators to join our Geographic Crime Teams.
Wiltshire’s Geographic Crime (CID) Teams deal with serious and series crimes across the whole County, from three hub locations.
As a Complex Crime Investigator your caseload will be varied and challenging but also rewarding. Your focus will be prioritising getting the right outcomes for victims of crime, investigating serious and complex crime, dealing with high profile cases, and going the extra mile to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society. You'll be working in close-knit teams where you can make a real difference. You'll be responsible for the whole investigation process from the initial report stage, planning the investigation strategy, through to the court hearing, and beyond. Being a Complex Crime Investigator is about establishing the truth while identifying and managing any risks. You'll do this by analysing evidence and engaging with victims and witnesses. A crucial part of this is building a strong rapport with people, to establish and maintain high levels of trust, with the aim of bringing dangerous and repeat offenders to justice. You will communicate with lots of different people and have the compassion and skills to deal with some difficult situations.
Successful applicants will be Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) Level 2 accredited, or working towards this accreditation and on the Programme, having already passed the National Investigator’s Examination (NIE). The successful applicant will be required to perform a range of roles which will include the interviewing of suspects and witnesses, disclosure and exhibit management. They will be required to assist in the preparation of prosecution or other evidential files and reports for the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Coroner or other relevant authority. They must be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and also meticulous attention to detail in relation to investigations and the production of documents and reports.

In this role, your main responsibilities will be:
- Interview witnesses and obtain statements in accordance with the Criminal Justice Act and to compile written reports and statements of evidence.
- Carry out the role of Disclosure Officer, Exhibits Officer (or deputy), and Officer in the Case, when required.
- Carry out functions and roles within the team including gathering evidence and intelligence.
- Obtain and execute search warrants and to carry out searches.
- Assist in the preparation of prosecution or other evidential files for the Crown Prosecution Service, Coroner or other relevant authority.
- Update manual and computer records where required for the purposes of an investigation.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) Level 2 accredited, or working towards this accreditation and on the Programme, having already passed the National Investigator’s Examination (NIE)
- You must be computer literate with experience of using and updating both manual and computer records
- You should have experience of writing reports and / or statements of evidence
- You must have experience of liaising with a range of departments / organisations / agencies
- You should have experience of interviewing witnesses or suspects and taking statements.
- Previous experience of working in a Policing environment.
- You should ideally hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the County using alternative transport.
Work on a bank or public holiday as part of the normal working week will be compensated in line with conditions of service.
Pay Scale £27,384 to £28,500 plus unsocial hours payment at 17.5%
