Urgent Care Call Handler - 3 positions available

St Helens Rota Ltd, based in St Helens town centre was founded over 40 years ago by a group of local GPs in St Helens as a not for profit organisation that has continued to develop and flourish during its lifetime. The organisation’s current ventures include:

- GP out of hours services
- Enhanced access provision for various GP practices
- Urgent hospital admission services
- Covid clinics
- Clinical advice services
- Call handling support for St Helens, Knowsley & Halton district nursing
- Employer for primary care ARRS roles

Role type: Part time, permanent

As an urgent care call handler you will be receiving calls from patients, clinicians and various other NHS services. Using our Adastra software you will log calls and despatch them to the appropriate receiving services. The role requires the ability to recognise a medical emergency, for example a patient presenting with FAST positive symptoms. You will be expected to work independently and with confidence to problem solve in addition to being aware of when situations may require escalation.

Full training will be provided for the role where you will be able to shadow supervisors and call handlers, meet clinicians and be introduced into the team.

Our business needs dictate that our staff are expected to contribute overtime on a regular basis, of which you will be able to select from shifts using our online rota management system.

Hours of work:
2 Positions (20 hours/week)

8am - 6pm Saturday

8am - 6pm Sunday

1 Position (16.25 hours/week on average)

6pm - 10:30pm Friday

6pm Saturday - 8am Sunday (alternate weekends)

Pay & Benefits:
£10.34 per hour before 12am/£11.64 per hour after 12am

- Experience working in urgent care or primary care is essential.
- Be able to work independently
- Communicate effectively and professionally
- Have excellent problem solving skills
- Understand clear instructions and follow pathways when handling patient calls
- Identify medical emergencies such as potential FAST positive / cardiac events (training provided)
- Have excellent organisational and co-ordination skills, recognising the importance of handling data effectively
- Follow all guidelines, polices and policies and procedures
- Have an understanding of GDPR and its requirements in relation to our organisation and its patients

Qualifications:
Minimum of grade C in Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
