**Overview**
As part of the Department of Estates & Facilities Management’s Engineering & Maintenance Team you will supervise, co-ordinate and oversee the work of a team of Building Maintenance Technicians as well as working alongside the Electrical and Mechanical Supervisors to ensure progress of multi-trade works. You will carry out building fabric maintenance work, assist staff on site to resolve problems that arise and liaise with contractors and University departments. As Building Maintenance Supervisor you will ensure that all work undertaken is in compliance with the University’s policies, current technical legislation and Health and Safety standards. Liaise with Electrical and Mechanical Supervisors to ensure progress of multi-trade works. Engineering and Maintenance are responsible for the statutory maintenance of building fabric, mechanical and electrical services across the whole campus, as well as responding to sudden, unexpected situations and maintenance projects. We work closely with Faculty and Professional Services colleagues to ensure all our building operational activities support the University’s research and teaching objectives.
**Main duties and responsibilities**
- Liaise with contractors working on University premises to ensure work is carried out to required timescales and University Health and Safety standards. Provide detailed information and advice about how to tackle tasks, using in-depth knowledge of the University and its infrastructure.
- Liaise with and maintain good relationships with key contacts in University departments to let them know about work being undertaken and keep them up to date with progress.
- Assist the Building Maintenance Managers to co-ordinate and maintain records of annual leave and sickness absence to ensure adequate staffing levels. Deal with individual personnel issues as required. Monitor and advise on team performance.
- Maintaining a reasonable stock level of consumables to enable planned and reactive maintenance to be achieved.
- Maintain personal tools, equipment and vehicles, taking responsibility for the safe keeping of these. Responsible for regular checks on vehicles to ensure they are in good condition.
- Develop an understanding of all trade skills areas.
- Assist the Building Maintenance Managers to plan preventive maintenance tasks to ensure work is completed according to a rolling programme of tasks. This programme is agreed at departmental level, with input from the post holder.
- Provide cover as required for other supervisors dealing with different disciplines within the team.
- Prioritise and respond to urgent requests for emergency work from EFM Helpdesk on behalf of departments.
- Decide how to allocate work, based on knowledge of what the job requires in relation to the skills of the individuals within the team and knowledge of workload and commitments within the team.
- As a member of the works team you may be required to travel between locations possibly using a University vehicle requiring the need for a full, clean Driving Licence.
