Imaging Research Co-ordinator

The Rowitch lab is seeking to appoint an imaging research coordinator to carry out and oversee the programme of spatial transcriptomics research within the Clinical School/ Department of Paediatrics. The Rowitch lab uses techniques of stem cell biology, high content imaging, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics & bioengineering to study many aspects of brain development. The spatial transcriptomics pipeline is an integral part of the work in the Rowitch lab and you will support multiple imaging research projects, helping with implementation and execution of the projects, contributing to publishing of results.
This is a rewarding role requiring an enthusiastic individual to provide training and technical support to research staff and students. You will work as part of a small technical team within the lab as a whole to operate, troubleshoot and maintain specialised imaging and robotic in-situ hybridisation machines by implementing effective assessment, quality controls, maintenance and monitoring systems. You will also contribute towards general lab management, stock control, ordering and inventory management, and implement safety and operational procedures.
Attention to detail and good organisation is key as you will be responsible for documenting project requests, plans, costing, slides for staining, protocols, and results. You will return results to users in a timely manner and respond to input and advice from users to improve service.
This post is highly collaborative, both within the lab and with external labs so you will have excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships in a diverse environment. Strong IT and image analysis skills are essential, together with significant experience in providing a core service and training researchers of all ability levels. You must be able to work independently, prioritising tasks and organising your time accordingly.
With a keen interest in innovation, you will keep up to date with the latest imaging methodologies, collaborate with researchers to optimise protocols and develop new techniques, especially in image analysis strategies and tools, using ImageJ, Harmony and R, as required by the research goals.
You will ideally be qualified to degree level or equivalent. Extensive practical experience and specialist knowledge of confocal high-content microscopy is essential. Coding skills and experience in automated in-situ hybridisation are desirable.
