Senior Ornithology Consultant

The Ornithology Consultancy Team manage existing, and win new, field and desk-based studies collecting / collating, modelling and analysing bird data for a variety of projects, within terrestrial, intertidal and offshore ornithology work. The team works closely with the wider APEM Group, using the most robust science to provide our clients with expert advice and the ability to interpret, assess and report on the key findings of bird data for use in our baseline characterisation, EIA and HRA projects across the globe.

**About the role**

As a Senior Ornithology Consultant (EIA) you will be providing ornithological consultancy services to clients; dealing with all aspects of the consultancy process, bringing in new projects through the preparation of successful costed proposals, the production of high quality scientific reports and maintaining good relationships with clients.

We will also be looking for you to:

- Preparation of ecological reports including: ornithology baseline technical reports, ornithological ES chapters and Habitat Regulation Assessments sections covering protected species from designated sites, Collision Risk Analysis for EIA Reports and other technical aspects of current impact assessments projects.
- Oversee statistical analysis of ornithological data.
- Undertake data interpretation for EIA and / or HRA reporting.
- Project management of a variety of small to large projects.
- To lead on proposal preparations, including costing and writing of technical sections in response to invitation to tenders from potential clients.
- To provide advice to clients on ornithology issues relating to large infrastructure projects.

**About you**

You will have good knowledge or ornithology/bird ecology and behaviour, including a good understanding of the UK planning process with respect to EIA and/or HRA requirements.

You will have an established track record in the field of ornithology (onshore and/or intertidal and/or offshore) and bird ecology, derived from a relevant career in consultancy, research or working for government and be educated to at least degree, level in a relevant discipline.

You’ll be passionate about ornithology and be able to engage with other like-minded specialists and non-specialist (regulators, clients, colleagues) individuals. Along with having commercial awareness, preferably in a consultancy role and be able to be a team player in a fast-paced environment.

This role is offered on a remote basis with ad-hoc visits to APEM offices for meeting or to client sites, we are open to you being based anywhere in the UK. If you prefer an office environment, we have offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Cambridge and are happy to talk about hybrid working patterns.
