The Young People's Supported Accommodation Service provides a safe, caring and supportive environment for our young people to live. We are looking for a motivated, reliable, and skilled Handy Person/Maintenance Operative to join our team in Harrogate or Scarborough.
As one of our Handy Person/Maintenance Operatives you will be responsible for ensuring our Supported Accommodation Properties are well maintained and safe. This will include performing routine maintenance tasks and general upkeep. Carrying out Health & Safety checks and reporting matters that require external attention. You will act as a point of contact for external contractors and work closely with colleagues in our property services as required. You will need proven maintenance skills and be able to carry out basic joinery, plumbing, decorating, general repairs and basic grounds maintenance.
You will need to be a motivated self-starter who can work independently managing your time/workload but also as part of a team. You will have good communication skills and be able to use IT systems that support your work and interactions with the wider team.
You will also, need to be able to understand the needs of vulnerable young people including children in care and care leavers and be able to take a caring and patient approach to interacting with residents in our accommodation (training will be given). Including occasions where their needs may cause disruption to your work plans.
It is essential that the post holder has a driver’s license and is able to meet the travel needs of the post. While both posts will generally cover a designated locality there will be times where county wide travel is required.
We are hiring two 18.5 hour per week posts. One based in Harrogate covering properties based in the West/Central of the county and one based in Scarborough covering the properties in the East of the county. These 2 posts will work on rota ensuring there is handy person coverage for the service everyday Monday to Friday
