**The role**
Carer Support Wiltshire has a dynamic communications and engagement team that has ambitious goals in raising awareness of the charity amongst its key audiences. We are now looking for a Social Media Officer to help us create compelling content for our social media channels in Wiltshire and Dorset that will inspire our beneficiaries and supporters and help maximise opportunities for us to find new carers, generate income and reach new volunteers.
This is a brilliant opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of what makes a good story and the ability to transform this into inspiring content across multiple formats for a range of audiences. You will also need a strong working knowledge of the most popular social media platforms.
**Your relationships**
This role reports to the Head of Communications and Engagement, providing vital support in developing and executing our communications and engagement strategy and delivering planned social media activity for a variety of campaigns. You’ll work closely with the rest of the Communications and Engagement Team, the fundraising and volunteering teams as well as other stakeholders across the organisation to produce and post engaging social media content.
**Main areas of responsibility**
As Social Media Officer, you will support the creation, commissioning, publishing and distribution of marketing content across Carer Support Wiltshire and Dorset’s social media channels in order to meet business objectives established by the Senior Leadership Team.
It is essential that the post holder has proven social media, organic and paid content production experience and knowledge of social media posting and interaction via Facebook, Instagram, X formally known as Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok in an organisational context.
**Responsibilities**:
- Contribute to the development of social media strategy that supports overall communication and engagement plans and campaign objectives.
- Develop our social media channels to grow and maintain a supportive and engaging environment for unpaid carers and our supporters.
- Curate, administer, create and post compelling content, organic and paid, for all our social media channels, adhering to our brand guidelines and taking a data-driven approach.
- Successfully deliver agreed-upon engagement targets and KPIs, tracking performance and recording and presenting key learning points.
- Ensure our social media content meets the specification for all major channels e.g. word counts and image sizes are correct for our social media channels.
- To manage our social media calendar, working with the rest of comms team to ensure consistent messaging.
- Identify outdated content and ensure its removal, consulting relevant stakeholders if necessary.
- Identify opportunities for linking topical events to our content.
- Engage with audiences and monitor their interactions on social media channels to get first-hand experience of customer needs.
- Monitor our social media inboxes and conversations, responding to enquiries and interacting with the public, referring PR-sensitive items to senior colleagues.
- Actively follow wider social media conversations pertaining to our mission with a view to contributing to relevant conversations.
- Keep current with digital and social media trends and practices.
- Train colleagues, including volunteers, in how to use social media effectively in their roles.
- Cultivating and expanding online communities that promote positive brand perception.
- Managing our social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
**Person Specification**
Essential:
- Experience of working in communications and/or marketing for an organisation.
- Working knowledge of current social media trends and practices.
- Ability to deliver campaigns to firm deadlines in a tight budgetary environment.
- Experience of using social media management tools.
- Experience in designing and testing campaigns and messaging.
- Writing for different audiences using a range of digital formats.
- An understanding of storytelling that inspires action.
- Experience of working with internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative way.
- Excellent communication and written skills.
- Resourceful and creative thinker with initiative.
- Photography and video production and editing skills
- Strong writing, editing and proofing abilities, excellent attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Experience of working for a not-for-profit organisation
- Knowledge of Adobe suite including Photoshop and InDesign
- Knowledge of Canva
