We are looking for a talented and ambitious **Historic Environment Consultant** to join our growing Historic Environment team.
The role will be based in either **Leeds or Birmingham,** although we work flexibly and operate a hybrid policy which to us means at least 3 days either in the office or on site.
Sweco is a multi-disciplinary environment so you will be an effective team member but also able to manage your own workload and will possess excellent communication skills.
As part of the Environment, Water and Energy Division, there are also opportunities to expand your knowledge and experience in other disciplines.
**What does the role involve?**
In this role, you will report to and assist the Historic Environment Lead in delivering heritage input across a portfolio of projects across England, Scotland and Wales.
The role will involve producing desk-based assessments, heritage statements, Written Schemes of Investigations, conducting walkover surveys and archive visits.
You will have already worked within the historic environment as a consultant for at least two years and will be aiming to progress to a Senior Consultant level under the guidance of the Historic Environment Lead and other senior colleagues.
We would also be keen to hear from field archaeologists who have experience and knowledge of the planning process and are looking to make a career change into consultancy.
**To be successful in this role you’ll possess**:
- 2+ years’ experience in a consultancy role
- A working knowledge of the UK legislation and planning policy in relation to the historic environment
- Demonstrable experience in undertaking desk-based assessments, historic map regression, walkover surveys, archival research, figure production etc.
- Good knowledge of GIS in carrying out archaeological and historic environment assessments
- Full UK Driving License and willingness to travel for site visits, including overnights
