Guildhall School of Music and Drama is a world-leading specialist Performing Arts conservatoire, investing in the artists of today and tomorrow. The School is a vibrant, international community of actors, musicians, and production artists in the heart of the City of London. Ranked as one of the top conservatoires for Drama and Music in the Guardian league tables and QS World University rankings, the School is a global leader of creative and professional practice, promoting expertise, innovation and research, with over 1,000 students in higher education drawn from nearly 60 countries around the world.
We are looking for an outstanding individual to join us as Production Arts Pathway Assistant/Tutor (Costume) in our Production Arts Department. The postholder will work predominantly in the Costume Pathway, providing support for classes, workshop and project activity; teaching, tutoring and supervising students; and assisting with production realisation. You will have industry experience that demonstrates high standing in your area of specialism. You will be responsible for assisting the work of staff and students in the Costume Pathway, and for teaching and tutoring students on the Pathway. Students work across areas including theatre, opera, live events, film, television and digital production (it is not necessary to have experience in all areas). You will supervise students undertaking production and project work and oversee safe working practices. You will also contribute to wider activities in the department, as agreed with the Head of Pathway (for example, concerning open days, fundraising events and outreach initiatives). You will have an understanding of the needs of students in a performing arts environment.
The Production Arts Department is responsible for BA Production Arts, BA Digital Design & Production and MA Collaborative Theatre Production and Design; a series of short courses and outreach activities; and extensive production activity in the School’s programme of public-facing performances and events. We work closely on a range of productions (including operas, dramas, site-specific and digital works) with other departments at Guildhall and (through Guildhall Live Events) a range of external and commercial partners. Our students learn through workshop-based activities, study and intensive production practice. They have opportunities to extend their knowledge by working on pathways other than their major area of study, and to develop their own interests and creative agency through independent projects. The Department is values-led and promotes diversity and inclusivity along with sustainable practices.
