Peer Support Worker Frequent Engagement Response
2 weeks ago
This is an exciting opportunity for excellent people who are passionate about creating positive changes for people described as experiencing ‘Complex Emotional Needs’.
Essential to this post is having experienced living with your own Complex Emotional Needs and having used this experience to support others within their recovery.
This post is for a part time (30 hours) Peer Support worker
‘Complex Emotional Needs’ is an umbrella term, describing intense mental health difficulties that can have a significant impact on many areas of an individual’s life. These difficulties often (but not always) arise from traumatic experiences and will affect people in many varied ways. The service is not limited to people with a confirmed diagnosis, although it is aimed at supporting people who are likely to have difficulties coping with overwhelming emotions, low self esteem and who may experience times of life threatening distress. Importantly, people with complex emotional needs also have strengths and experiences and have a good prognosis for recovery.
The role will involve working with people who are regularly engaging with blue light services at crisis periods to try to improve the responses they receive. We will be creating person centred plans to guide emergency services as to the most helpful ways of acting and communicating with them when distressed.
The role will also involve raising awareness and promoting hope.
Our service aim is to create easier access to good quality support that can be stepped up or down in response to need. Much of our work will be in guiding and supporting all agencies that support people with complex emotional needs to feel confident and able to work in an evidenced based way.
The service is committed to achieving the principals of an ‘enabling environment’ becoming a positive and rewarding place to work and study, where people thrive, succeed and achieve positive outcomes.
At Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, we are supportive of the people we care for in the community and aim to provide a fully responsive service to everyone who needs it. This is the same approach we take for our employees. We look to value the skills and experiences of those we work with, whether they are service users, carers, families or those looking to work with us.
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we are able to work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.
See the attached job description and person specification for full vacancy details.
This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.
A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes is essential. For qualifying staff the Trust has a Lease Car Scheme in place and also offers a popular Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme with our partner Tusker.
