**Job summary**:

- The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) is one of the principal investigative law enforcement bodies for labour exploitation in the UK. We are a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Home Office. We also licence labour providers in certain employment sectors and enforce the provisions of the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004.
- In addition to Gangmasters licensing legislation, we have powers to ensure vulnerable workers are more effectively protected from being abused for their labour, such as police-style powers of arrest, and increased powers to search for and seize evidence. The GLAA is able to investigate labour exploitation offences under National Minimum Wage, Employment Agencies as well as Modern Slavery Act.
- As an ‘intelligence-led’ organisation, we rely and act upon information from workers, businesses, members of the public and partner agencies about non-compliance with regulations, unlicensed activity, or other labour market offences where it relates to labour exploitation.**Job description**:
We are currently recruiting for position of **Appeals Officer** to join our Licensing team.

The core focus of the role is to manage and deal with GLAA appeal cases arising from licensing decisions whilst carrying out all aspects of the role in line with the GLAA values.

You will respond to the grounds of appeals submitted by appellants, effectively and concisely putting the best case forward on behalf of the GLAA. You will also liaise with HM Courts and Tribunals Service regarding the appeals and attend to directions from the Court in a timely manner. You will be responsible for managing appeal cases from receipt through to the hearing and decision. This includes attending appeal hearings which can be held across the UK.

You will be confident in building your network as you will be required to work closely with colleagues and both internal and external stakeholders.

You will also be required to review inspection reports, consider the accompanying evidence and make licence decisions as part of your role. Therefore, you must have a good eye for detail and excellent written communication skills.
