Assistant Editor, Academic Editorial (Student Learning) - Fixed Term

The opportunity

Bloomsbury Academic publish high quality print and digital resources for the student textbook market globally. We are looking for an Assistant Editor to join our friendly higher education publishing team.

Reporting to the Commissioning Editor, and working closely with other editorial, marketing and production colleagues, the Assistant Editor will have the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting textbooks and digital educational resources in Politics, International Relations, Psychology, Sociology and Research Methods. This is a rewarding role for someone with some publishing experience who is seeking to take the next step in their publishing career.

The role

Helping to plan, coordinate and project manage titles through all stages of the publishing process

Assisting with commissioning with the opportunity to commission select new editions

Managing editorial processes and the peer review process

Preparing final typescripts for handover to production, and arranging for digital ancillaries as required

Writing and editing cover copy and blurbs

Drafting cover briefs

Liaising with authors, and colleagues across all departments

Assisting with backlist management

Conducting market research

Providing input for sales and marketing activities

Knowledge, skills and experience

**The ideal applicant for this role will be**:
familiar with publishing processes and have publishing experience;
an excellent communicator;
able to multi-task and prioritise;
organised and focussed on problem-solving;
meticulous, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
confident to work unsupervised;
professional and have a can-do attitude;
numerate and computer literate.

Additional informationThe role is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) 12 month fixed term contract

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesdays and Thursdays
