Trainee Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner

This training role is based within the new Anxiety and Depression in Young People (AnDY) Research Clinic in Oxford. The Clinic is a collaboration between Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, University of Oxford, and University of Reading. Its aim is to build on the success of the AnDY Research Clinic at the University of Reading by establishing a research-ready clinical service in Oxfordshire that can support research around the development, maintenance, prevention, and treatment of mental health difficulties in childhood and adolescence.
The post-holder will be part of a team delivering brief, outcome focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing difficulties with anxiety and/or depression) whilst undertaking training via the Graduate/Postgraduate Certificate-level
Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) training programme at the University of Reading. The University will provide core training in psychological assessment and intervention, while the service will provide the clinical work and supervision required to pass the course.
1. Conduct person-centred assessments, using digital technology or face to face, and determine the best course of treatment for individuals with the support and guidance of experienced supervisors.
2. Work under supervision to provide high volume, brief, evidence-based psychological interventions, including guided self-help and group work, within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust’s policies and procedures.
3. Keep records of clinical activity and collect both outcome measures and patient evaluations. Contribute to the collation and analysis of outcome and experience data.
4. Attend the University of Reading CWP training programme and successfully complete the academic and clinical requirements of this course.

Clinical
1. Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
2. Assess and support young people with a common mental health problem, with or without comorbid long term physical health conditions, in the self-management of their recovery.
3. Undertake child
- and young person-centered assessments which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
4. Contribute to decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the service referral protocols, and refer unsuitable young people on to the relevant service/back to the referral agent as necessary or step-up the person’s treatment to high intensity therapy.
5. Provide a range of information and support for evidence-based, high volume, brief psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help and information about psychological and pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone, or via other media.
6. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
7. Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure tr
