This is an exciting time to be joining the Digital Services Division as we’re working to transform the Neath Port Talbot experience for all our citizens, businesses, staff and visitors through the best use of Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT).

To deliver the change required, we’ve reset the entire Digital Services staffing structure, aligning to the DDaT profession capability framework, ensuring we have modern and fit for purpose job descriptions focusing on the rights skills and abilities.

The Role

As a content designer, you’ll use your design knowledge to create and iterate user-centred content that turns complex services and products into simple, easy to understand user experiences.

Working closely with product managers, service designers, researchers, developers and many other disciplines as part of Agile multidisciplinary teams for whole service digital transformation. You’ll be responsible for creating, optimising and testing insight led, readable content across our digital services and websites.

Example responsibilities include:

- Creating and iterate high-quality content, user centred content, making sure end-to-end journeys meet user needs
- Work with senior leaders across the organisation to help them understand content design and how transforming how they communicate with their customers could improve service delivery.
- Work on developing and improving our websites and web services end to end as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Managing and optimising the content lifecycle, thinking about the processes and ensuring that content is continually reviewed and fit for purpose.
- Work with stakeholders across the Council to help them understand content design and how transforming how they communicate with their customers could improve service delivery.
- Use analytics data, user feedback and user research to identify the needs of users, map user journeys and inform content strategy.
- Review and provide direction on the work of other content designers and experts from other disciplines.
- Take part in user research, gathering data and insights to help make content changes within services.
- Review existing content, taking part in shared critiques and suggesting then carrying through wholescale change.
- Create content plans with the services you pair with, creating roadmaps for change and helping them innovate with how they communicate.
- Create content strategy with the services you pair with, helping them make their user communication clearer and more outcome-driven, enabling the service to transform..
- Contribute to the building of a content style guide that reflects cross-government content design standards, ensuring we speak to our users in consistent and accessible ways regardless of channel or service used.
- Coaching and mentoring content designers in the team.
- Work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that services meet our Digital Service Standard or equivalent peer review.
- Develop and broaden your skills and confidence levels to be able to create content strategy.
- Play a key role in the development of an information architecture based on a modern CMS, ensuring that we can develop and iterate content easily between services and that our information to our staff, residents, visitors and businesses is reliable.

Expierence and Education:
Must be educated to HNC level or possess equivalent occupational experience.
