At Gateshead Health, we believe good planning and high performance go hand in hand. As a result, we’re continuing to change the way we work so we can better support the Business Units to provide excellent patient care while making good use of NHS resources.
As an effective Planning & Performance Business Partner, your job will be to ensure your assigned Business Unit receives the expert advice, information, support and challenge they need to effectively plan for and manage the performance of their services. As an example, this might include working with a service that is experiencing pressures to understand patient flows, use tools to assess capacity and demand, before using that analysis to help to write a business case that delivers a sustainable plan for the future of the service.
To do this, you’ll definitely need to be analytical and highly numerate as you’ll be working with and interpreting a range of data - but these jobs aren’t analyst posts so we need more than that. To help services plan in the world in which we work, you’ll need to be able to understand the NHS policy agenda and help service management teams grasp its implications.
Communicating and working effectively with a wide range of staff is a key element of these business partner roles - so you’ll need to build good relationships that will allow you to both support and challenge the people you work with.
More than anything, we’re looking for people who are fast, motivated learners who can see both the big picture and the detail and who enjoy working collaboratively to make things better for the people we serve.

You will provide your designated Business Unit and/or Corporate Directorate expert advice, information, support and challenge needed to effectively plan for and manage the performance of their services, to support excellent patient care and good use of NHS resources. You will be an autonomous practitioner who provides business-focused and strategic guidance to the Operational Director/Corporate Directorate and their senior management teams in relation to all planning and performance matters; ensuring it is line with the local/national agenda, and liaising with other teams within corporate functions and business units.
