Job Introduction
BBC Radio 1Xtra is focused on reaching predominantly young black audiences, through playing contemporary black music and supporting new artists.
BBC Radio 1Xtra’s mission is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech. We reflect the lives and interests of 15-29 year olds. At 1Xtra we play the best in contemporary black music. We offer the best in new music, events, news, documentaries, social action campaigns and entertainment of relevance to young people.
Main Responsibilities
The Assistant Commissioner will report to the Head of Station,1Xtra and will work closely with the Music Editor,1Xtra. The Assistant Commissioner will work with a wide range of internal and external contacts.
This role is key part of the 1Xtra Network team.
You will be working with the production companies that create content for the live radio platform of 1Xtra, as well as wider departments across the current and future scope of the 1Xtra brand.
- You will demonstrate programme making experience and sound editorial judgment.
- You'll have a keen interest and understanding of the commissioning process.
- You'll have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- You'll have proven record of being organised in fast paced environments.
- You'll have experience of handling confidential and/or controversial information tactfully.
- You'll have the ability to use your own initiative with confidence, using judgement to escalate where necessary.
- You'll have strong understanding of evolving audience requirements including in relation to digital content knowledge, ensuring that new forms of content are considered as part of the commissioning process.
