Maintenance Lead

The Maintenance Shift Lead is responsible for leading the maintenance technicians across multiple shifts directing and managing the planning, development, and execution of total preventative maintenance work to minimise failures, improve reliability of maintenance effectiveness, shorten repair times, and meet customer & organization expectations.
The role is primarily a shop floor-based role, actively involved in breakdowns and driving the management, fast resolve and high standard of fixes whilst also leading, developing, and coaching the maintenance technicians to achieve exceptional standards within the department. The Maintenance Lead will work hand in hand with all Shift Leads to communicate, prioritise, and direct all technical matters that effect production.
This role is responsible to ensure coherence to business objectives within the department whilst ensuring that maintenance is fully functional and operating within all company and sector guidelines.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Works collaboratively with manufacturing shift leads to prioritise and align labour to manufacturing priorities, to support delivering monthly Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost KPis.
- Ensures site assets are compliant through Safety & Quality standards and metrics.
- Hands on role with direct leadership of maintenance technicians for the Deeside site, ensuring maximum visibility of team on shop floor providing strong service to our line-based teams.
- Support improvements through SMED activity.
- Execute Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) driving down machine time loss supporting increased OEE year on year.
- Drives maintenance compliance through safety & quality and drive team to real Root-Cause through effective analysis.
- Prioritises data to communicate within the organization - decisions based on actual figures rather than intuition or observation alone.
- Implement predictive and preventative maintenance techniques and support Autonomous maintenance.
- Manage planned maintenance execution and ensure 100% compliance.
- Be hands-on in supporting the maintenance team in breakdowns using skills and experience to guide and deliver.
- Works with other internal departments to prepare for operational readiness of new and modified installations to ensure safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment.
- Coordinate with other TPM stakeholders and sites to share practices and improve results.
- Understand financial metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Works with site leadership to develop and achieve aggressive improvement goals.
**Key Requirements**:
- Considerable knowledge and experience in manufacturing engineering is essential.
- Knowledge of control systems, programming and technical fault finding is essential.
- Expert knowledge in mechanical/electrical and pneumatic systems.
- Previous experience of improvement projects and leading teams.
- Experience in a highly regulated maintenance environment is essential.
- Management experience within a maintenance framework would be a distinct advantage.
- Must be proficient with PC programs i.e., Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Statistical tools like Minitab or Jump, Project Management (Microsoft Project, etc.), SAP.
- Blend of leadership and technical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Results and data orientated.
- Driven attitude with the ability to hold high working standards and challenge when required.
- Must be able to build a strong working relationship with employees on shop floor.
**Education & Qualifications**:
- Time served as an engineer (electrical & mechanical).
- Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred).
- Engineering Degree/HNC or higher - similar qualifications will be considered.
- C&G 2391 inspection and testing/similar qualifications would be advantageous.
**Working Conditions**:
- The role is primarily a shop floor-based role.
- Minimum travel required.
- Working Double Days shift pattern: 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm.
