The Marchant-Holliday School is an independent special school that caters for boys aged 5-13, all of whom have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) for social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). The school has day pupils and weekly boarders. Our vision is that all children can thrive in a caring, tolerant, understanding and supportive environment.

**The role**:
We are looking to strengthen our team by appointing a Family Support and Child Protection Officer. The post holder will be passionate about safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. They will act as a champion for children who have SEMH, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and barriers to learning to improve the outcomes of the children and their families.

The post holder will work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to develop the strategic vision for safeguarding within the school and closely monitor safeguarding procedures, systems and records.

In addition to this, they will work closely with pupils, their families and external agencies such as social services, Family Connect, Strengthening Families, police, Alternative Provisions (ensuring offsite attendance and safeguarding) and school nursing, making relevant referrals in a timely manner.

The postholder must be able to make decisions about if and/or when to take action to ensure the protection and safeguarding of a child within the context of locally agreed vulnerable children and child protection thresholds and guidance.

Applicants must have experience of, or equivalent to, two years full time, of working with children and families who are vulnerable / in need, in either the education (including teaching) or social care sector. (This is a non-teaching post).

A passion and enthusiasm for working with SEN children is essential as is the ability to work co-operatively within a team setting.

A tolerant, compassionate nature and sense of humour would be an asset.
