The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences and the Division of Biosciences have joined forces in a collaborative project on malignant hypothermia.
The Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences is a world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology and pathology of human movement and movement disorders. The Department incorporates groups from the Queen Square and Royal Free campuses of the Institute and includes the Reta Lila Weston Institute and the Movement Disorders Centre.
The Division of Biosciences is part of the Faculty of Life Sciences and is one of the world’s leading centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences, and one of the largest groupings of life scientists in the UK. **About the role**:
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join a Medical Research Council funded project, which presents an exciting opportunity to work under the guidance of Professor Duchen and Dr Frontzek across the Division of Biosciences and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, and in collaboration with the malignant hyperthermia unit at the University of Leeds.
The main purpose of the study is to understand mechanisms of malignant hyperthermia, a defined project on a novel Stac3 mouse model.
The role is available from 01 January 2025 and is funded by a grant from the Medical Research Council until 31 December 2027 in the first instance.

**About you**:
You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline as well as general laboratory competence and experience in tissue culture, histology, and a range of immunohistochemical techniques. Good communication, interpersonal, time management, and organisational skills are also essential for this role.
**What we offer**:
Appointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary £38,357 - £41,005 per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
