Monitor, install, configure, manage and maintain a large number of Linux and UNIX Solaris Systems in a scientific environment. Ensure secure services with minimum downtime. Implement and release changes as submitted by internal teams or customers. Monitor system hardware to ensure timely escalation and resolution of any faults. Analyse system logs and identify potential issues.

The main duties include the support, operation and maintenance of Linux/Unix based computing

facilities.
- Assist building compliance with processes and policies.
- Build resilience into system design, ensuring high availability.
- Provide technical support on incidents and problems.
- Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth system functionality.
- Create, maintain, and utilise documentation.

Typical Skills:

- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Good working knowledge of UNIX and Linux system fundamentals.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Good Linux system support on Red Hat/Centos/Ubuntu/Suse.
- Gather and assimilate customer requirements for new IT Systems.
- Add new systems and remove redundant systems.
- Prioritise workload to meet customer requirements and expectations.
- Report incidents or situations where security has, or may have been compromised.
- Understanding of Solaris Administration.
- Awareness of IT Security.
- Effective Planning and Risk Management skills.
- Knowledge of Data Protection Principles.
- Practical experience of server software and hardware build and maintenance.
