Gillingham Primary School are looking for a new team member to join us to support the needs of an individual child currently in Year 3. Working under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo, you will be well supported to work with the child, both inside the classroom and in small group or individual activities.
- Have experience of working with young children who have additional needs, preferably in a school environment
- Show an understanding of the needs of children who have speech & language, social communication and attention barriers to learning.
- Be qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 2 or equivalent
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to keep accurate records
- Be able to engage confidently with children, parents, colleagues and professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists.
- Have an interest in special needs and inclusion
- Be committed to safeguarding and child protection

**You will be**:

- Resilient and empathetic - always able to remain focused on the child’s needs without taking it personally or reacting with frustration.
- Patient, kind and firm when necessary, always remaining consistent in your approach and conduct.
- Curious and reflective - getting to know the child well so you can spot triggers and patterns in the child’s thinking and behaviour.
- Flexible -able to break information down into small chunks, adapting your approach as required.
- An excellent team-player - valuing the contribution of others, receptive to feedback, confident to use own initiative and communicating with colleagues regularly

Hours of Work: 27.50 hours per week

Monday to Friday - 9.00 - 3.00pm with 30 minutes for lunch.

**Fixed Term Contract** linked to the special educational needs of a specific child.

**Start date**: As soon as possible.
