Kettering, United Kingdom Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, kind and compassionate individual to join the Patient Safety Team in the role of Family Liaison Practitioner. Patient Safety remains high on the national agenda and is core to our Trust values and priorities. Involving families in a compassionate manner is a crucial part of the incident learning response and this role will focus on using positive family engagement within the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) to transform the investigation experience of patients, family, and staff.

The Family Liaison Practitioner post is a new initiative within the Trust and will be a fantastic opportunity for the right person to develop and shape the role within the service. The role of the Family Liaison Practitioner (FLP) is to support families and carers through the investigation process that follows a patient safety incident related to a service user. The role is to ensure families and carers are treated with compassion and professionalism and that we meet their needs following a death or other traumatic event occuring within healthcare. The role requires the highest degree of sensitivity, communication ability and integrity and will include the provision of support to newly bereaved individuals, some of whom may be deeply distressed. The post will be the main point of contact for individual families and carers and will work closely with the review team assigned to the incident. There will be opportunities to inform policy and practice across the team and to present case studies, brief reports, learning tools and best practice guidance in partnership with families and clinicians.

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. Our mission is to provide safe, compassionate, and clinically excellent patient care, by being an outstanding employer for our people. We have entered into a Group Model with neighbouring Northampton General Hospital and have become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.
