Senior Systems Engineer

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Systems Engineer in the Systems Engineering department at the Denham site.

This role is a member of the Systems Engineering Group, comprising of Systems Engineering, Software Engineering and Electronic Engineering. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for mentoring, managing, and motivating a team of engineers to deliveragainst both active programmes and strategic business objectives in support of the company’s mission, core values and focus areas. The Senior Systems Engineer promotes the Systems Engineering approach and uses it to actively handle their projects and assignments.The Senior Systems Engineer will have experience of some aspects of systems engineering lifecycle activities. The role inherently requires a strong aptitude for problem solving and an ability to understand complex inter dependencies. The Senior Systems Engineerwill actively engage with the continuous improvement of the engineering process to improve product quality, safety, and business efficiency.

**Areas of Responsibility**:

- Utilise systems engineering methods across the life cycle. Engage with continuous improvement across the systems engineering processes
- Capture and analyse stakeholder needs to elicit, document and trace requirements within the business and regulatory frameworks in use
- Support and influence the design of new concepts and refine them with a multi-discipline team
- Conduct trade studies and assessments to down select appropriate architectures and technologies
- Develop and document detailed requirement and design specifications at various sub-system levels, suitable to inform and guide multi-discipline implementation teams
- Inform and support all levels of testing from proof-of-concept through integration and qualification testing
- Support the on-going airworthiness of the company’s products
- Guide and mentor your team of engineers to collaboratively develop and deliver design and modelling artefacts
- Provide technical advice to both internal and external customers
- Provide domain expertise in support of both internal and external design reviews via written and verbal means
- Carry out reviews with team members, regularly reviewing progress against objectives and supporting development
- Own the functions technical plans for each project and plan and track the team’s day to day activities
- To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed to maintain and / or improve the efficiency, quality and service provided by the Engineering Department.
- To undertake business travel as and when required.

**Education & Qualifications**:

- 1st/2.1 Accredited and relevant STEM degree
- Demonstrate competencies of Chartered Engineer. Be a member of a relevant professional organization

**Specific / Technical Skill**
- Experience with SysML and the use of MBSE tools
- Experience in requirements elicitation, definition, decomposition, verification, and traceability maintenance
- Experience of at least one project phase and its associated engineering technical review. Knowledge of the order and relevance of all the engineering technical reviews
- Knowledge and understanding of the tools used to model MBAs systems and associated (sub)systems, the equations/principals behind them, and the limitations of these tools
- Knowledge of the following would be desirable:

- Ejection seat and/or multi-body modelling
- Pyrotechnics
- Software or scripting tools

- Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities demonstrating effective negotiation and compromise
- Experience of influencing system design within an integrated team of engineering disciplines
- Practiced at supervising/managing others
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles across the lifecycle. Some experience at the system level OR significant experience across the lifecycle at subsystem level
- Experience of engineering complex systems
- Knowledge of the following would be desirable:

- General knowledge and experience of working within US MIL STD / UK Def. Stan
- Knowledge of ejection seats and their key design paradigms
