Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham Women’s Centre Full time

This navigator role is to support women who are survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse (DSVA) and are experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage (SMD). The navigator will work with women living in hostels, hotels and other temporary accommodation. These women may experience homelessness, poor mental health, substance use, and involvement in the criminal justice system. They are living with deep trauma and distrust. We know that building a trusting relationship makes all the difference when it comes to women engaging with support sessions in and out of the Centre. We need someone who can build relationships and trust easily and confidently. You will need to be proactive, solution-focused and empathetic, with a positive mind set, and willing to go the extra mile to empower other women.

We will expect you to respond flexibly to meet each woman’s needs, providing advocacy and working with her to influence systems that are often rigid or risk-averse.

You will deliver structured and creative interventions, to support women to explore their experiences, rebuild confidence and connect with others. This may include facilitation of Freedom Programme and Own My Life courses.

**We’re looking for**:

- Experience of supporting women affected by DSVA and SMD
- Experience of delivering group work
- A deep understanding of trauma-informed care and safeguarding
- Confidence in advocating across services, including housing, health, criminal justice, and social care
- A compassionate, creative approach to long-term support and re-engagement

The role requires you to assess each woman at engagement (risk assessments, safety plans and safeguarding reviews) and to carry out regular and ad-hoc reassessments. You will co-produce an action plan with each woman which may cover support relating to housing, benefits and finances, mental health and substance use, social care, healthcare, criminal justice proceedings, and social inclusion.

**You will**:

- carry out person-centred assessments to identify the client’s needs and support the client to develop goals and plan actions in line with this, in a trauma informed way.
- liaise with local voluntary and statutory agencies such as domestic abuse services, homelessness and substance misuse services or the local authority social care department and act as an advocate as required, always keeping the woman’s best interests at heart.
- deliver group and one-to-one sessions for women to explore their experiences of DSVA and the impact on children and family members, improve confidence and self-esteem, and enable the development of longer-term strategies and space for action
- provide advice, support and advocacy on practical issues affecting each woman
- liaise and co-ordinate with other agencies involved in supporting each woman, to pursue a joined up response, reduce risk and improve safety
- work to tight deadlines, maintain client records and update all management information systems to enable a quality service to be delivered, monitored and evaluated (training will be provided).
- promote our activities to external agencies, potential referrers, and women from a range of demographics.
- identify trends and issues arising from your work and share with colleagues to inform our policy and influencing work.

**General requirements**
- Assist in any area of NWC administration in the absence of colleagues
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings, team meetings, supervisions and sub groups as required
- Comply with NWC Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Statement of Intent and practices at all times and to ensure effective implementation of anti-oppressive practice throughout the organisation
- Must have a good working knowledge of how to work in a way that is compliant with the Data Protection Act, GDPR and other legislation, ensuring a high level of confidentiality of information in respect of records maintained and tasks undertaken

**Values and Behaviours**
- Committed to the purpose of NWC, ensuring that women are at the heart of everything we do
- Working days and working location to meet organisational needs and in line with contractual requirements
- Feminist and committed to fostering innovation and continuous improvement in working practice
- Flexible and open to new challenges, ideas and experiences, and able to be self-reflective
- Committed to understanding diversity and ensuring anti-discriminatory practice is applied in all forms of our work
- Non-judgemental with a commitment to self-care
- Collaborative, building relationships with internal and external partners
