The role

As an Assistant Policy Advisor within the Suicide Prevention Team you will support the team in the planning and delivery of a range of suicide prevention and wider road safety research and policy projects. You will be part of a team of professionals whodevelop and implement evidence-based strategy and guidance to prevent suicides on the strategic road network. You will provide first line advice to internal and external customers to support them in the delivery road safety improvements.

What you’ll be leading on

You will:

- Work with partners both internal and external to review and create new evidence-based policies, standards, and guidance for suicide prevention.
- Manage and coordinate the work of contractors and internal colleagues on the development of evidence, intelligence, products and services that contribute to our commitment to reduce suicides.
- Provide performance reporting and analysis, helping us to understand the nature of risk and what constitute effective approaches to suicide prevention.
- Act as a source of expertise on suicide prevention and wider road safety approaches, providing appropriate technical advice and guidance to National Highways and to external stakeholders where required.
- Identify, commission and manage research and consultancy projects to provide evidence to support the resolution of any intelligence gaps.
- Project manage work packages commissioned with external consultants, ensuring that technical deliverables are met and using the resulting research to build company intelligence and creative solutions to enhance our capability to reduce suicides.
- Support the Road User Safety Group contribution to National Highways being a learning organisation - ensuring that intelligence and information reach people who need it, and acting to support their practical use of that intelligence.

To be successful

You will have:

- Experience of delivering improvements in a safety or public health environment.
- Experience of working with data and research.
- Experience of working in a programme and project environment, working with programme management to support the delivery of specific programmes.
- Evidence of managing internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve desired outcomes.
- An understanding of evidence based practice and proven experience of developing evidence-based solutions.
- An ability to lead and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and communicate complex information.
- Strong networking skills and be able to identify and build relationships with key stakeholders and persuade and negotiate as necessary.
- Practitioner skills in a recognised project management methodology
