A progressive tech company who build some seriously cool analytical & lab-based products is looking for a Global Head of Software to join them in any of their UK/European offices with 3 days remote working a week (UK: Midlands, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire & Europe: Netherlands, Portugal). Their products are used by Scientists and Engineers in a wide range of industries including healthcare, pharma, automotive, environmental and more. With plans to scale this function rapidly (80-150 software/engineering hires in total), this role owns software across their global R&D division.
What experience you’ll need
Proven experience in managing multi-functional software functions at global/enterprise level.
Ability to manage several multi-functional teams with direct/indirect reports between 25-100+.
Capable of owning strategic direction of software platform design, development, component use/reuse and lifecycle management.
Proficient in all software disciplines, including development, testing, architecture, requirements, embedded software, firmware etc. with strategic involvement in tooling/process optimisation across these areas.
Skilled in managing multi-regional teams and regional project alignment.
Strong focus on Research & Development (R&D).
Experience in an ISO9001 environment would be desirable.
Any experience in domains like (Bio)Science, Instrumentation, Hardware, Materials, Healthcare, Pharma, Electronics, Hardware, Engineering, Analytics would be beneficial.
What you’ll be doing
This role owns the strategic direction and greenfield/ongoing development of all software within the business’ global R&D function, working closely with the managers of several business units as part of their centre of excellence. You’ll govern key requirements of strategy surrounding software delivery and will play an integral role in driving the introduction of new products, some greenfield and some gained through acquisition. You’ll be the go-to for all decisions for future business requirements, providing insights to the global software board to support wider collaboration and implementation of software strategies moving forward. Internal and external stakeholder engagement is key; you’ll take a consultative approach to communication with suppliers. This role manages 7-10 multi-functional teams in total with an estimated headcount of 50-75 people, which will expand rapidly once embedded into the team.
