Point of Care Testing Practitioner

A vacancy has arisen in the Point of Care Testing (POCT) Department for a highly motivated individual to join the POCT team in providing high quality POCT services for the Aneurin Bevan university Health Board (ABuHB). The Team supports a wide variety of POCT equipment such as Blood gas machines and Blood glucose meters that are located in most clinical areas throughout the Health Board.
It is an exciting time to be involved in Point of Care testing as it is a rapidly expanding field and forms an integral part in the ABuHB Clinical futures strategy in helping to facilitate care closer to home. It is an opportunity to be involved in a transformation to way healthcare is delivered in Wales.
The base will be at The Grange Hospital at Llanfrecha. However, the successful applicant will be expected to travel within the Health Board as and when needed. The ability to transport yourself and equipment between sites during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy.
Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work. You must be able to work on your own initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills. You must also be able to work as part of a small team.
The post, although based within Pathology involves spending time on the wards, clinics and out patients Departments supporting the clinical areas in the use of the point of care testing equipment. The role includes: training, maintenance, trouble shooting and monitoring quality performance of devices and users. The role would suit a Qualified Nurse, Biomedical Scientist, ODP etc who has an interest in the use of Point of Care Testing.
Knowledge of Point of Care testing systems would be beneficial although not essential.
