The Coventry Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit to a Financial Controller role on a permanent, full time basis. The DBF is a charity and limited company and forms part of the network of Christian organisationsin the Diocese of Coventry that represents the Church of England in Coventry and Warwickshire. With a network of 200 parishes, there is a Christian presence in every local community and a rich variety of people and traditions.

As an exceptional Financial Controller, you will act as deputy to the Director of Finance whilst leading a small team.This role is responsible for the financial reporting of three connected organisations, the DBF Coventry Cathedral and Together for Change,and will have a key part to play in the forecasting and budgeting for all three.The Financial Controller is an exciting and pivotal position in the finance team and you can expect a wide variety of activity on a regular basis.

**The key responsibilities will be**:

- Production of the monthly reporting for the DBF, Coventry Cathedral, and Together for Change to agreed deadlines.
- Preparation of the financial reports and commentary for the Diocesan Finance Group, including presentation of this report to the Committee.Other financial reports to the Glebe committee, the Investment sub-committee and Audit and risk committee will berequired in line with the deadlines for issuing papers.
- Preparation of the annual report and financial statements for each organisation. Liaison with auditors during the external audit ensuring all reports and supporting documentation are available.
- Preparation of cash flow reporting for each organisation to ensure all funds, are carefully stewarded, and invested to optimise income and capital returns.
- Work with the Director of Finance to prepare the annual budget and long-term financial forecast for the DBF.
- Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns including partial exemption calculations and Gift aid claims.
- Maintain and develop the accounting systems, ensuring financial controls are in place and a programme of testing is put in place to ensure they are working as planned.
- Developing relationships with budget holders to understand the drivers for spend, proactively providing advice and guidance to build commercial awareness.
- To provide leadership and clear direction to a team of three direct reports.

**Essential requirements**:

- ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent qualification.
- Extensive experience of management accounting and budgeting.
- Strong knowledge of the statutory accounts and External Audit processes.
- Experience of leading and managing a team of mixed abilities, nurturing and developing their skills to build capacity and flexibility within the team.
- Ideally, a background working in the charity sector, but this is by no means essential.
- Cash-flow forecasting and management experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to finance and non-financial staff and volunteers.
- Attention both to detail and the big picture, and ability to analyse and reconcile complex data between different sources.
