Health & Safety Officer

This role will be based at our award-winning eco-factory in Gillingham, Dorset.
**Purpose**:To coordinate, support and advise the manufacturing and retail business on all aspects regarding Health & Safety. To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communication, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with health & safety within Neal’s Yard Remedies are adhered to.
To be responsible for the management of specific services and facilities that support the smooth running of the NYR Business at the Peacemarsh Site. This involves day to day operations, particularly in relation to equipment, catering, cleaning, security, and utilities.
**Health & Safety**
- Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health
- Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulation are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
- Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
- Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented
- Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
- Co-ordinate the development of health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures.
- Establish a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.
- Establish a structured programme of health & safety training throughout the company.
- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety and welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business
**Facilities**
- Manage specific services and facilities provided for the Peacemarsh site covering; equipment, catering, cleaning, security, and utilities, to ensure these business functions remain effective.
- Ensure Carbon Neutral meter readings are conducted and reported.
- Ensure the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is conducted and reported as required.
- Ensure the Security of the Site and company assets and respond to emergency situations when necessary (including out of hours)
- Ensure planned maintenance schedules for non-engineering routine visits covering the Site Fire & Intruder Systems, Emergency Lights and Fire Extinguishers are implemented and outcomes followed up.
- Oversee the production and implementation of any Site related procedures covering Emergency Evacuation, Duty Manager/Emergency Response Team Duties, Key Holders & Site Access.
- Coordinate routine PAT and electrical testing.
**People Management**
- Provide motivation, support and guidance to direct reports to achieve engagement and meet the standards required by Neal’s Yard Remedies.
- To manage direct reports in line with Neal’s Yard Remedies P&D policies e.g. attendance management and performance management.
- Any other reasonable duties, which may be required by management from time to time
- Champion a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
**Person Specification**:
- Qualified in NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3)
- 2 - 5 years recent and relevant experience in a Health & Safety role
- Proven track record of continuous improvement
- Demonstrate leadership qualities: influencing, decision making, delegation, and motivating
- Professional approach, coupled with strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
- Strong IT skills
- Self-motivated, with and ability to work on own initiative and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to work co-operatively with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements
- Flexible and co-operative at all times, with an assertive, but calm demeanour
