**Role Description**:
As the Assistant Director of Building Standards, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring safety and compliance within Hammersmith and Fulham or in a shared service capacity. Your key responsibilities will encompass a wide spectrum of critical areas, including building regulations, structural and fire safety, carbon reduction from buildings, and access for all. Here's what your role entails:

- Building Safety Expertise: You will need to be a Registered Building Inspector Level 3 and Manager (Level 4) under the Building Safety Act, exemplifying your profound understanding of building safety regulations.- Team Leadership: Led and manage a diverse team of professionals, overseeing recruitment, and performance, and fostering open communication within the framework of Investors in People (IiP).- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with building regulations, London Building Acts, and the Building Safety Act, all while maintaining a vigilant eye on statutory requirements.- Emergency Response: Be the go-to authority for managing dangerous structures, mitigating risks, and safeguarding the health and safety of our residents, visitors, and staff, even on a 24/7 basis.- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the department in various forums, including meetings with Councillors, colleagues, the public, businesses, and external agencies, working tirelessly to advance the interests of the Council.- Collaboration: Foster effective collaboration with organizations like London Councils, LABC, LDSA, the building safety regulator, and other stakeholders.- Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of Council policy, legislation, external initiatives, government guidance, and other professional matters to provide informed counsel.- Strategic Advisor: Advise the Council on actions necessary to meet national and other targets while offering expert guidance on structural and fire safety issues in planning proposals.- Efficiency and Revenue Generation: Lead your team to achieve peak efficiency, delivering exceptional value for money, and adopting a commercial mindset to increase the Council's income targets.**Experience, Knowledge & Skills**:

- Team Leadership: Proven experience in leading and managing diverse teams, particularly in building safety, carbon reduction, and access management within a bustling urban environment.- Policy Development: Direct involvement in crafting major policy strategies related to legislative changes, building safety, and climate change responsibilities.- Operational Excellence: A track record of efficiently responding to dangerous structures, overseeing works in default, and managing contractors.- Business Acumen: The ability to effectively manage, promote, and market local authority building standards operations in an urban setting, while meeting safety standards, service targets, and income budgets.- Industry Insight: A deep understanding of national, regional, and London-specific building safety issues, along with an awareness of the current and future challenges facing these services.- Developer Engagement: Significant experience in assessing and responding to major development initiatives from developers.- Team Development: Strong experience in building, nurturing, and coaching teams, identifying individual strengths and development areas.If you're ready to contribute your expertise, leadership, and passion to help Hammersmith and Fulham Council reach new heights in building standards and safety, we encourage you to apply.
