Mental Health Care Assistant

Our nursing assistants here at Grove Park will be involved supporting patients in a number of tasks promoting recovery and well-being as directed by the nurse in charge and based on a care and treatment pathway established by the multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to work across our two units which are both 9 bed acute admissions wards providing care to patients with a range of mental health diagnosis and presenting risks.
**Main responsibilities**
The role of the nursing assistant will include but not limited to the below listed responsibilities:
- Build therapeutic relationships to establish rapport and trust, allowing individuals to discuss their individual concerns and experiences.
- Work collaboratively with patients, family members and other professionals whilst remaining patient centred to support in decision making around care and treatment.
- Maintain dignity, privacy and human rights at all stages of admission and care delivery.
- Assist patients in a compassionate manner to attend to their normal activities of daily living.
- Monitoring and escalating any changes in patients mental and physical well-being.
- Provide a safe, non-threatening and least restrictive response to patients who are presenting with levels of distress.
- Provide education to patients and families about mental health and ways to encourage and maintain recovery.
- Support patients to manage their distress, emotions and risks through de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain and document factual and accurate health documents.
- Complete and document observations as directed by the nurse in charge, informing of results.
- Recognise and work within personal limitations of ability and knowledge.
- Provide patient centred care in line with local policies and guidelines
- Complete all mandatory and statutory training.
**Person specification**
We are currently looking for individuals to join our team who may or may not have experience working in mental health but can demonstrate effective communication skills.
They will work within the local policies and guidelines.
Individuals must be able to take direction from the nurse in charge
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £11.44 per hour
