**Job summary**:

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will work closely with patients, their families and carers. You will be essential in ensuring those who use our mental health services have a positive experience and will work as part of our dedicated teams comprising of nurses, healthcare support workers, activity coordinators, social workers, occupational therapists and psychiatrists.

Children and adolescent Mental Health-Austen House(Band 3), Bluebird & Serenity Hospital(B3)

Older person mental health-Parklands & Brooker at St James(B2)

Secure adult mental health

In our physical health services we have;
Lymington Hospital

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:

- This role can be part of a career pathway, which includes Senior Health Care Support Worker and the Associate Practitioner role.
- You will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team alongside service users to promote independence and daily living skills, including personal hygiene, diet and fluids, encouraging them to engage in social or leisure activities as identified within their Care Plan.
- This role will provide support in management of risk, developing therapeutic relationships, supporting people to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
- Act as a role model for team members, supporting new or less experienced colleagues.
- This role will assist and support qualified staff and carry out assigned tasks as directed, without supervision. This will include housekeeping duties where required.
- This role will demonstrate excellent communication skills, using them to engage, persuade or negotiate with clients with complex, at times challenging needs to ensure they are provided with the most appropriate care and support.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent

**Desirable**:
Previous experience in a health or care setting
NVQ Level 2 in Care

**Experience**:
**Essential**:
Ability to undertake and pass Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training as required for role.

**Desirable**:
Experience in working in a healthcare setting.

Experience of working in an environment where clients demonstrate challenging behaviour

**Additional Criteria**:
**Essential**:
An ability to follow care plans as determined by a qualified practitioner.

An ability to carry out routine observations and to advise a qualified practitioner where a change in care may be required.

Ability to recognise a deteriorating patient and to escalate concerns.

An ability to recognise and act appropriately in an emergency situation requiring the intervention of

a senior nurse, doctor, or emergency services.

An ability to prioritise workload.

Able to work as part of a team.

Communication skills required where a client may present with complex needs and persuasion or negotiation is required to ensure the most appropriate care is given.
