Knowledge Translation Fellowship

**Knowledge Translation Fellowship (Priestley International Centre for Climate / COP27 Taskforce)**:
**Salary: Grade 7 (£35,333 - £42,155 p.a. depending on experience)**
This role will be based at the Priestley Centre, University of Leeds campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
**Are you an ambitious researcher with a broad background in climate focused research? Do you want to be part of a new research programme supported by three University of Leeds entities? Do you want to develop your skills in trans-disciplinary research, and bring together colleagues from across the University on issues of climate politics and international climate negotiations?**
The University of Leeds is one of the top 135 universities in the world. We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.
The University of Leeds has world-leading expertise in climate science through the Priestley International Centre for Climate and the COP27 taskforce which oversees the University of Leeds’ engagement at the Conference of the Parties (COP) - an annual meeting for 197 nations and territories who are signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Horizons Institute, established in late 2021 to encourage and enable interdisciplinary research across the University, is now working with the Priestley Centre and COP27 taskforce to capture the legacy of the University’s participation in COP26 and to pave the way for participation in COP27 and other future UNFCCC negotiations.
Working together, the three entities have identified the need for this new position to lead on the development and production of research-focused outputs emerging from the University of Leeds’ participation in COP26 and COP27 and its planned participation in COP28. The three outputs are envisaged in the following areas:
- A co-produced narrative account of the COP process itself;
- A co-produced thought piece on the triple crisis of food, energy and conflict and links climate and development;
- An institutional narrative about how we can better integrate our research for the UNFCCC process in advance of COP28.
These outputs will have three key aims:
- To create accessible pieces that will showcase Leeds-based expertise in this area and use these outputs to influence COP delegates, in regard of COP27, in advance of COP28 conference and anticipating future years;
- To bring together colleagues from different parts of the University to undertake a collaborative initiative, building new relationships across disciplines;
- To act as a pilot for the Horizons Institute to learn from the experience and potentially roll the format out to other complex intersecting challenges to support collaboration and development.
The post holder, working with representatives of Priestley, the COP27 taskforce and the Horizons Institute, will conduct in-depth literature reviews; bring together an interdisciplinary group of University of Leeds researchers to work on these outputs; and ultimately be responsible for their successful delivery. The role will report to Prof. Stuart Taberner, Director of Horizons Institute, whilst working closely with an academic oversight group of Prof. Richard Beardsworth (School of Politics and International Studies, UoL), Dr. Harriet Thew (School of Earth and Environment, UoL), and Prof. Jason Lowe (Priestley International Centre for Climate, UoL and The Met Office Hadley Centre).
**What we offer in return**
- 26 days holiday plus 16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) - that’s 42 days a year
- Generous pension scheme - the University contributes 21.6% of salary
